Suno released v6 on September 9, 2026. It's not a version bump. It's a new generation of music models, built with licensed catalog partners including Warner Music Group, BMG and Believe, and it replaces every model that came before it.
What Suno V6 Actually Is
For the first time, Suno shipped a family instead of a single model gated by plan tier. There are three of them, and they are not interchangeable.
Plan: Pro or Premier
The flagship. Suno positions this as its most refined and controllable model. Use it once you know the direction and want a reliable, repeatable result.

The one that matters most
Editing. In the old workflow, a great verse and a bad chorus meant regenerating the whole song and hoping the verse survived. V6 lets you describe the change and keep everything else. That single shift is most of why this guide has an Editing stage at all.
Older generations already in your library still play, share and remaster fine. Suno says new generations route through v6 going forward.
Simple Mode vs Custom Mode
Simple Mode takes a plain description and runs with it. Type something like an atmospheric electronic song about driving alone through a city at 3am, and V6 interprets the rest. Good when you know the feeling but not the technical language.
Custom Mode is where a real production workflow lives. It gives you your own lyrics, a dedicated style field, structural control and the creative sliders covered in Stage 3. Once you're past the novelty stage, this is where you should spend most of your time.
The basic loop looks the same in either mode:
- Pick a model: V6-Mini to explore, V6-Wild to get surprised, V6 to execute.
- Describe the song, or write it out in full in Custom Mode.
- Generate. Suno returns two versions per request.
- Compare them, and keep the stronger one.
- Edit or extend it. Don't start over by default.
Two versions per generation is a feature, not a rounding error. Your job is to find what's worth keeping, not to demand a perfect first take.
Stage 2 of 7
Suno V6 Prompting
By the end of this stage, you'll write prompts that describe relationships between instruments, not just a list of them.
Suno V6 prompting means describing musical relationships in layers, not listing keywords. Music is a system of relationships, and a strong prompt describes how the parts interact, not just which parts exist.
The Principle: Layers, Not a Keyword List
Think in layers:
- Genre
- Era or aesthetic
- Vocal character
- Instrumentation
- Rhythm
- Harmonic character
- Arrangement
- Energy
- Production character
- Overall emotional direction
A practical formula follows from that list:
[Genre] + [Era/Aesthetic] + [Vocal] + [Rhythm] + [Bass] + [Instrumentation] + [Arrangement] + [Energy] + [Production]
Weak vs Layered: the Same Idea, Two Ways

Dark alternative rock with an intimate male vocal and restrained verse dynamics. Overdriven rhythm guitars stay sparse during the verses while melodic bass carries the movement. Live acoustic drums gradually become more aggressive, opening into wide distorted guitar layers and powerful vocal harmonies at the chorus.
The second version tells Suno how the guitars, bass and drums behave relative to each other, verse versus chorus. The first version is a pile of things that might appear anywhere, in any relationship. Suno has to guess at the relationships. The layered version doesn't make it guess.

Arrangement and Structure
Without arrangement instructions, generative music tends to loop the same idea. Think in terms of energy over time: a sparse intro, an intimate verse, a rising pre-chorus, an explosive chorus, a stripped second verse, an instrumental bridge, and a bigger final chorus.
In Custom Mode, structural tags carry that intent directly in the lyric sheet:

Parentheses work for backing vocals and ad-libs, since Suno will try to sing anything inside them:

Keep instrumental instructions in bracket tags, not parentheses. Writing (Guitar Solo) risks Suno trying to vocalize the phrase. Use [Guitar Solo] instead.
Without an explicit energy arc, Suno tends to repeat the same idea for the full length of the track. Describing change over time is what makes a generation feel like a song instead of a loop.
Stage 3 of 7
Suno V6 Controls
By the end of this stage, you'll know which control to move when a generation is too safe, or too far off-script.
Suno's Creative Sliders determine how closely a generation follows what you wrote, versus how far it's allowed to wander. Weirdness and Style Influence have existed under those names in earlier versions. Variety is the same underlying idea.
A practical rule: change one slider at a time. If a result is too predictable, raise Weirdness. If it wanders away from your intended style, raise Style Influence. If it's technically fine but boring, try V6-Wild before writing a longer prompt.
Max Mode
Max Mode spends more compute on a single generation. Suno recommends it for songs longer than two minutes, covers where similarity to a source matters, style transfers, and anywhere vocal or stylistic consistency needs to hold across the whole track. Short idea, standard generation. Complex production, Max Mode.
Without these controls, you're stuck either fighting the model to stay on-script, or manually regenerating until something interesting happens by chance. Moving one slider on purpose is faster than either.
Stage 4 of 7
Suno V6 Editing
By the end of this stage, you'll be able to fix one bad section, or one wrong word, without regenerating the rest of the track.
Suno V6 editing means changing one part of a song, a section or a single lyric, without regenerating the rest of it.
Stop treating a generation as a finished file
V6's plain-language editing means a song is a modifiable object. A strong verse with a weak chorus no longer means rolling the dice on the whole track.
Editing a Section in Plain Language
Change the chorus so it is sung by a gospel choir while preserving the verse tempo, instrumentation and overall mood.
Make the bridge more sparse. Remove the dense drums and leave piano, bass and intimate vocals.
Surgical Lyric Edits
Change the lyric "love" to "light."
Every regeneration is a new roll of the dice on the parts that already worked. Editing in place protects them, which is the entire reason this is now a separate stage instead of a footnote.
Stage 5 of 7
Suno V6 Sampling and Mashups
By the end of this stage, you'll know how to turn an existing generation, or outside audio, image or video, into new material.
Suno V6 sampling means turning a fragment of existing audio, or another generation entirely, into the seed for something new. A song doesn't have to be consumed as one finished object.
Sampling Existing Audio
Sample the guitar riff around 0:45, isolate the guitar character, and build an aggressive breakbeat around it.
Mashups: Combining Multiple Sources
Take the vocal character from Song A, the percussion from Song B, and combine them into an atmospheric 1980s synthwave arrangement with new lyrics.
This treats your own library as components rather than finished songs. One generation can quietly become the source material for several others.
Audio, Image and Video as Input
Sampling isn't limited to audio you've already generated. V6 also accepts audio, image and video as creative input for a brand-new generation.
Audio
Upload a voice memo, a rhythm idea or an instrumental fragment as the foundation for a new generation.
"Use this rhythmic idea as the foundation for an aggressive electronic track."
Image
A photograph supplies the visual concept. Your prompt supplies the musical interpretation.
"Create a dark cinematic track inspired by this image. Slow tempo, deep bass, gradually increasing tension."
Video
Video adds pacing and movement, useful for scoring footage rather than writing a standalone song.
"Follow the pacing of this video. Begin sparse, increase intensity during the movement, then drop into a minimal ending."

Suno V6 Production Workflow
By the end of this stage, you'll have a repeatable loop for turning a generation into finished stems, plus a way to diagnose what's going wrong when a track isn't working.
Suno V6 production is everything between a generation you like and a track that's actually finished: stems, troubleshooting, and the loop you'll repeat every session.
The Loop You'll Run Every Session
Everything in Stages 1 through 5 collapses into one repeatable cycle. This is the practical version, the one you'll actually run each time you sit down to make something.
Use V6-Mini or V6-Wild. Generate several interpretations of the idea. Don't judge for perfection, you're looking for interesting material, a chord change, a vocal tone, an unexpected transition.
Judge parts, not the whole song. A great chorus buried in an otherwise average generation is still worth keeping. Ask what parts of this are valuable, not whether the whole thing works.
Once you know the direction, switch to V6 and write a tighter, more specific prompt: preserve the dark synthwave character and vocal intimacy, but make the drums more aggressive and create a larger melodic lift into the chorus.
If one section is wrong, describe the fix in plain language instead of regenerating the whole track. This is the step most people skip out of habit from earlier Suno versions.
A strong riff, vocal phrase or drum pattern doesn't have to stay locked inside one song. Use it as source material for a different generation entirely.
Pull stems where available. This is the step that turns an AI-generated song into AI-generated production material you can actually work with.
Move the stems into Suno Studio or your own DAW for EQ, compression, arrangement cleanup, mixing and mastering. Suno doesn't have to replace your production process. It becomes another instrument inside it.
Fixing a Bad Generation
Diagnose before you regenerate. Most problems trace back to one of these.
Raise Style Influence, or rewrite the style description with more specific genre and era language.
Try V6-Wild, or raise Weirdness before adding more adjectives to the same prompt.
Simplify the instrumentation description. Naming fewer elements with clearer roles usually beats naming more of them.
Describe the arrangement change directly: the final chorus should be dramatically larger than the verses, with layered backing vocals, additional guitar layers and open cymbals.
Describe the performance directly: close, intimate, upfront vocal with clear articulation and minimal distance from the microphone.
Add an explicit energy arc: begin sparse and restrained, gradually increase density, then release into a dramatically larger final chorus.
Describe the ending specifically, rather than leaving it implied: extended final chorus followed by an instrumental outro with sustained guitar feedback and slowly fading synth layers.
One more habit worth dropping: mixing-engineer jargon. Suno responds better to a phrase like clear vocal presence and controlled low end than to -14 LUFS, 4:1 compression, 30ms attack.

Full examples following the layered formula. Adjust the specifics, keep the structure.
Early 1990s alternative dream pop with shoegaze influence. Breathy intimate female lead vocal, close-mic delivery, fragile verses, layered octave harmonies entering the chorus. Driving but restrained live acoustic drums, dry snare, gradually opening cymbals. Melodic electric bass with a warm low-mid character, interacting closely with the kick. Chorus-drenched guitars, layered distortion, shimmering analog synth pads. Sparse atmospheric intro, intimate verse, rising pre-chorus, huge wall-of-sound chorus, stripped second verse, instrumental bridge, final chorus with added harmonies. Dark futuristic techno with Detroit-inspired rhythmic discipline and a cinematic industrial atmosphere. Deep controlled analog bass, punchy four-on-the-floor kick, syncopated metallic percussion, tight closed hats with occasional distorted accents. Cold analog synthesizers, evolving modular textures, dark minor-key pads. Minimal hypnotic opening, increasing percussion density, a tension-building breakdown, explosive return, extended final section with evolving synth layers. Mechanical but human-feeling groove. Detailed modern production, tight low end, crisp transients, wide atmospheric stereo field.
Dark cinematic orchestral-electronic score. Low intimate cello and bass textures, deep cinematic percussion, evolving analog synthesizer drones, distant piano motifs, gradually expanding string layers. Begin extremely sparse and atmospheric, introduce subtle rhythmic movement, slowly increase harmonic tension, build toward a large emotional climax with full strings and wide synthesizer textures. The final section should feel expansive and unresolved before slowly collapsing into a quiet atmospheric ending. Wide cinematic soundstage, detailed dynamics, deep controlled low end.
Dark atmospheric alternative hip-hop with a late-night urban character. Low intimate male rap vocal, conversational delivery, controlled aggression, occasional doubled emphasis. Deep punchy kick, tight snare, restrained hi-hats with triplet variations, sparse percussion, heavy sub bass. Moody analog synth chords, reversed textures, filtered electric piano, distant guitar fragments. Sparse verse leaving space around the vocal, chorus adds bass movement and wider harmonic layers with subtle backing vocals. Modern production with strong vocal clarity and controlled sub frequencies.
Suno V6 Commercial Use and Rights
Commercial rights depend on your Suno plan and its current terms of service, not on which model generated the track. Your own original lyrics remain yours. What Suno owns, what you're licensed to use, and what counts as a derivative work are separate questions from whether the audio sounds finished.
Don't upload material you don't have the rights to use, including commercial recordings, other people's vocals, copyrighted lyrics and unlicensed samples. The licensed-catalog story behind v6 changes the industry conversation. It doesn't remove your responsibility to check the terms before distributing commercial work.
Stage 7 of 7
Suno V6 to DAW
By the end of this stage, you'll know what to bring into your DAW, and why it's worth tracking where it came from.
Moving Suno V6 output into a DAW means treating the generation as source material, not a finished master.
Suno Studio has grown into its own browser-based production environment, with MIDI, built-in synthesizers, automation and timeline editing. That's useful, but most working producers still finish inside Ableton Live, Logic, FL Studio, Bitwig or Pro Tools.
The handoff that matters is stems, not the finished mixdown. Extracted vocals, drums, bass and synth layers give you room to EQ, compress and arrange the way you would with any other source material.
Worth tracking as you go
Once AI-generated material enters a DAW project alongside your own recordings, knowing which stems came from Suno, which model generated them, and how heavily they were edited becomes part of the production record, not an afterthought. That's the problem the Hybrid Production Standard is built around, and it's increasingly relevant under disclosure rules like the EU AI Act's Article 50.
The Real Skill Isn't a Secret Prompt
The most useful shift in v6 isn't audio quality. It's the move from prompt, generate, reject, generate again toward create, inspect, edit, sample, refine. A generation stops being a verdict and starts being raw material.
The better you can describe structure, performance, texture and energy, the more useful Suno V6 becomes. Once you stop expecting the first generation to be the finished song, the whole tool works differently.
